The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the Uttar Pradesh Data Center Policy 2026, targeting investments worth over Rs 2 lakh crore and adding 2 Gigawatts of data center capacity. The policy aims to establish the state as a leading hub for green and AI-ready data centers.

Key Features of the Policy

The new policy focuses on GPU-based infrastructure, energy-efficient facilities, and sustainable operations, offering incentives for Tier III and Tier IV data centers, AI Compute Booster support, and benefits for green data center operations. IT and Electronics Minister Sunil Sharma emphasized the policy's importance in strengthening Uttar Pradesh's digital infrastructure and encouraging innovation.

The policy is expected to generate around 7,500 long-term direct jobs and nearly 50,000 short-term jobs during the construction phase. Existing projects under the previous Data Center Policy, introduced in 2021, have already seen significant progress, with seven projects becoming operational and involving investments of around Rs 21,343 crore.

Investment and Job Creation

The government expects the new policy to build on this momentum by attracting more technology companies and expanding digital infrastructure across the state. The policy also offers additional incentives for projects in Bundelkhand and Purvanchal, promoting regional development.

  • Target investment: Rs 2 lakh crore
  • Additional data center capacity: 2 Gigawatts
  • Long-term direct jobs: 7,500
  • Short-term jobs during construction: 50,000
  • Investments under previous policy: Rs 21,343 crore

With the new policy in place, the state is poised to become a major player in the data center sector, driving economic growth and technological innovation. The government's next steps will be crucial in implementing the policy and attracting investments.
