Bengaluru will launch a month-long Freedom from Waste campaign on August 1 to clear garbage, debris, and mud heaps from roadsides and vacant sites. Property owners who fail to clean their plots by August 15 will face cleanup costs added to their tax bills.

Campaign Aims to Restore Bengaluru’s Cleanliness

Karnataka Minister for Bengaluru Development K Krishna Byre Gowda announced the drive as part of Independence Month celebrations. The initiative targets accumulated waste damaging the city’s aesthetics, including mud heaps from Metro and K-RIDE construction sites.

Property Owners Given Deadline

The government has urged property owners and the public to clear vacant sites before August 15. Unmaintained plots often become dumping grounds, the minister noted. If owners do not comply, authorities will undertake the cleanup after the deadline and recover costs through property tax adjustments.

Multiple government departments will coordinate the campaign, which seeks to improve Bengaluru’s appearance through shared responsibility between officials and citizens.
