The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the establishment of two 100-bed Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospitals in Gorakhpur and Moradabad, along with an ESIC Medical College in Varanasi. The state government will provide land for these projects either free of cost or at concessional rates.
New Healthcare Facilities to Boost Access
The proposed ESIC hospitals in Gorakhpur and Moradabad are expected to improve access to quality medical treatment for insured workers and their families. The Moradabad hospital will be built on 2.025 hectares of state government land provided free of cost, serving around 93,591 insured workers and nearly 3.56 lakh family members.
The Gorakhpur hospital will be set up on over five acres of land in the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) area, with the state offering the land at a concessional rate of Rs 2,000 per square metre. Both hospitals are expected to create employment opportunities for doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and administrative personnel.
ESIC Medical College to Enhance Medical Education
The Cabinet has also approved the allotment of around 13 acres of land in Varanasi for the ESIC Medical College, estimated to cost Rs 800 crore. Labour and Employment Minister Anil Rajbhar stated that 50 per cent of the MBBS seats will be reserved for the children of insured workers.
