A senior doctor was injured on Monday when a portion of the ceiling and a fan collapsed on him at the Satellite Hospital in Alwar, Rajasthan. The incident occurred while Dr Sitaram Agrawal was examining a patient in the outpatient department.

Incident Details and Casualties

The collapse happened at the Satellite Hospital located in the Kala Kuan area of Alwar city. Dr Agrawal suffered serious head injuries and was shifted to another hospital for further treatment after initial medical care. A patient present in the room also sustained minor injuries.

Hospital staff rushed to the scene immediately after the incident, which triggered panic among patients and staff inside the hospital. Additional District Magistrate (City) Ambalal Meena visited the hospital to inspect the site and assess the building's condition.

Hospital Condition and Previous Concerns

Dr Pramila Meena stated that the hospital building had been in a deteriorated condition for nearly 10 months. Although repair work worth around ₹16 lakh was sanctioned four months ago, it had not commenced. The Public Works Department (PWD) had been informed about the issue.

The incident has renewed demands for an immediate structural audit and timely repair of ageing government healthcare facilities. Similar incidents have been reported in the past, including a ceiling plaster collapse at the office of the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO).

Next Steps and Investigation

The structural condition of the hospital is being evaluated, and instructions have been issued to undertake necessary repairs. The outcome of the assessment and subsequent actions will determine the future course of repairs and maintenance at the hospital.
