The Union government has approved road infrastructure projects worth Rs 50,000-60,000 crore for Uttar Pradesh, with a focus on strengthening north-south connectivity, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Monday.

The approvals, announced during an event marking the inauguration of national highway projects worth over Rs 4,850 crore, include bypasses for cities with populations exceeding five lakh and four-lane roads to every district headquarters in the state.

Strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s road network

Adityanath noted that while Uttar Pradesh already has robust east-west connectivity through expressways like Purvanchal, Ganga, and Bundelkhand, the new projects will address gaps in north-south links. He credited Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for the approvals, stating that Gadkari’s approach to infrastructure development is unwavering.

The chief minister highlighted recent milestones, including the inauguration of the 63-km Lucknow-Kanpur Greenfield Expressway, which will enhance connectivity between major cities and support the proposed State Capital Region. He also cited the Ganga Expressway and Noida International Airport as examples of Uttar Pradesh’s rapid infrastructure growth.

From BIMARU to growth engine

Adityanath contrasted the state’s current progress with its past struggles, stating that Uttar Pradesh has shed its BIMARU tag to become a key driver of India’s economy. He attributed this transformation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and the state’s improved governance, security, and infrastructure.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, as the state underscored its push to expand transport networks.
