Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused the NDA-led government of failing to address recurring paper leaks in India’s education system, calling it a “dishonest extortion mechanism.” The Congress leader’s remarks follow ongoing controversies over exam irregularities, including recent allegations tied to the UGC-NET June 2026 Sociology paper.
Allegations of Corruption and Exam Irregularities
In a post on X, Gandhi stated that students now describe the education system with terms like “corrupt, unjust, biased, dishonest.” He claimed the system, designed to prepare children for the future, instead pushes families into “debt, stress and despair.”
Gandhi alleged that corruption has enabled a “paper leak mafia” to thrive, undermining the efforts of millions of students. He criticized the government and Union Education Minister for remaining silent despite repeated scandals, noting that “guilty vendors and officials get tenders and promotions” while students face the consequences.
Call for Education Reform
The Congress MP urged students to join the party’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign, calling for a “Revolution in education.” He invited them to an event in Dehradun on July 17, stating, “Enough is enough now, now is the time for a Revolution in education.”
The National Testing Agency (NTA), which oversees exams like NEET UG and UGC-NET, has faced repeated allegations of paper leaks. The Education Ministry recently ordered a probe into the UGC-NET June 2026 Sociology paper leak after complaints of pre-test circulation.
