A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district allegedly poisoned his mother after his mother-in-law refused to send his wife back unless the woman was killed, police said. The incident occurred in Barpura village under Pinahat police station on July 9.
Poisoned food and hospital admission
According to the FIR, Ravindra laced a serving of chole with a toxic substance and gave it to his mother, Rammoorti, around 3 pm. She was hospitalized after her condition deteriorated and remains under treatment. The complaint was filed by Rammoorti’s husband, Ranveer Singh.
Mother-in-law’s alleged role
Ranveer Singh’s FIR states that Ravindra admitted the poison was supplied by his mother-in-law, Phoolwati. She allegedly told Ravindra in Gatpura village that her daughter would not return unless he “removed” his mother. Investigators have not yet verified these claims.
Family dispute and legal action
Ravindra’s brother, Mukesh, cited a property dispute as the source of rising family tensions, noting that Ravindra’s wife had been staying with her parents. Police have booked Ravindra and Phoolwati under Sections 61, 109, and 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Ravindra is in custody, and the probe continues.
Officials said further action depends on medical, forensic, and additional evidence.
